Pilot Conservation Advice Grant Scheme for Vacant Traditional Farmhouses

14 June 2023

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has announced a pilot conservation advice grant scheme for owners of vacant traditional farmhouses availing of or considering availing of the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant.

Traditional farmhouses, or vernacular farmhouses, are a key part of our historic rural landscape.  They are informal in character, planned and constructed by their original owners without input from an architect or builder, and use locally-available materials such as clay or rubble for walls and thatch, stone or corrugated-iron (“tin”) for roofs.

The Pilot Conservation Advice Grant Scheme for Vacant Traditional Farmhouses will provide grants of up to €7,500 ex. VAT to cover the cost of having a conservation expert with proven and appropriate expertise visit a vacant traditional farmhouse, conduct a survey, and compile tailored conservation advice for its owner.
