Wonder Wander Walking Trails
The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage has partnered with Meath County Council and Waterford City and County Council to create Wonder Wander Walking Trails. This new series of walking trails raises awareness of and an appreciation for the rich built heritage in two Architectural Conservation Areas in each county: Dunboyne and Navan in County Meath, and Cappoquin and Waterford City in County Waterford.
The Wonder Wander Walking Trails have been developed in collaboration with the local communities. In addition to well-known public buildings, each trail shines a light on some of the lesser known architectural details and the stories that are associated with these unique places.
Follow the Dunboyne trail to learn about its Olympic connections as well as the legendary motor racing that took place in the village.
The Navan trail takes in a hideout for the town’s very own Robin Hood as well as historic stocks that were used for punishment by public humiliation.
Stroll the streets of Cappoquin and take in some of the best traditional shopfronts in the county as well as a collection of “stink pipes”!
Wander through the streets of Waterford City and stop at a former garage for quadricycles, and see a vestige of Waterford’s beloved “Mud Boat”. The eagle-eyed trail hunter will enjoy finding various historic inscriptions and foundry markings dotted along the route.
