Neale, a picturesque village in south County Mayo, boasts an abundance of architectural heritage including an eighteenth-century Church of Ireland church; a nineteenth-century Catholic church; a handball alley; and charming thatched houses.  Adjoining the village are the eye-catching follies of the Neale House estate including a stepped pyramid introducing the spirit of Egypt to the Irish landscape; a nineteenth-century “Temple of the Winds”; and the bewildering “Gods of The Neale” whose lengthy inscription has long perplexed the observer.
