The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage has partnered with Dublin City Council to create Wonder Wander walking trails. The Wonder Wander walking trails have been developed in collaboration with the local communities. In addition to well-known public buildings, each trail shines a light on some of the lesser known architectural details and the stories that are associated with these unique places.
The Wonder Wander for Phibsborough sets off from the library on an adventure across a vanished canal, through a street that once resounded with the rattle and clatter of tramcars, and to a grand boulevard where cattle were once a familiar sight. Stop at Saint Peter’s and spot the skull and cross bones beneath its soaring spire or marvel at its stained glass windows by the world-renowned Harry Clarke. Take in a remarkable survivor from an age before the motor car and pass a favoured watering hole of one of the twentieth-century’s most prolific executioners.
