The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage has partnered with Dublin City Council to create Wonder Wander walking trails.  The Wonder Wander walking trails have been developed in collaboration with the local communities.  In addition to well-known public buildings, each trail shines a light on some of the lesser known architectural details and the stories that are associated with these unique places.

The Wonder Wander for Mountjoy Square and North Great George’s Street begins at Mountjoy Square Park, once a private garden for the sixty-eight grand Georgian townhouses that line the square.  The trail takes in all four sides, stopping off at coal hole covers, a “thunder box”, and a ward boundary marker before making its way to North Great George’s Street.  Learn about the area’s links to King Crisps and an old Dublin treat appetisingly known as “toenail cake”!  Finish the trail back on the square and its fine views towards Gadon’s famous Custom House.
