Conservation Advice Scheme for Traditional Houses 2026

The National Built Heritage Service has announced the list of traditional houses that have secured grant funding under the Conservation Advice Grant Scheme for Traditional Houses 2026.

The Conservation Advice Scheme for Traditional Houses provides grants for expert conservation advice for owners of vacant, derelict and occupied traditional houses who are availing of, or considering availing of, the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant or the Traditional Homes Pilot Scheme (SEAI).

The aim of the Conservation Advice Scheme for Traditional Houses is to help owners invest more effectively in refurbishment, keeping intact the historic fabric and character of their traditional buildings while supporting their re-use as practical modern homes.  The grants allow homeowners to engage a conservation professional to conduct a survey and compile a tailored conservation report outlining the condition of the building and identifying conservation repairs and improvements which will restore it to use while enhancing its character, energy efficiency and integrity.

Stream 1 of the scheme is targeted at owners of traditional houses in cities, towns and villages where the traditional house is a protected structure and/or an historic structure in an Architectural Conservation Area.  Stream 2 of the scheme is targeted at owners of traditional farmhouses where the farmhouse is a protected structure and/or is in an Architectural Conservation Area and/or is a vernacular farmhouse with no statutory protection.
