Site for an earlier house, mid 17th century, possibly burnt after the siege of Derry in 1689. Present house 1742 set in a demesne laid out as a landscape park, pre 1836. The surroundings have changed little throughout its history with the exception of serious tree loss in the 1940s and 50s. The outstanding planting and unusual but traditional layout in the walled garden is particularly notable.
