Freestanding oval-plan cast-iron double postbox on plinth base, installed c. 1940. Drum with raised 'P&T' insignia to curved door leaves to either side, neck mouldings framing two letter slots, dentillated frieze and shallow domed cap. Sited on footpath in front of main post office.
This prominently located postbox is in front of the architecturally important modernist-style Andrew Street Post Office. An attractive piece of street furniture, it is a good example of the high quality of mass-produced cast-iron work made in the early twentieth century. The raised Gaelic script was used by the State for many official purposes in its early decades.
