Freestanding two-stage limestone classical funerary monument, erected c. 1880 to mark burial place of Fleming family. Comprises plain rectangular base, lower stage drum having plain entablature with urns supported on floating Tuscan columns, round-headed recesses to each side with archivolts and impost mouldings, inscription to front (south) beneath carved panel of lamb and cross; upper stage has open lantern with canted corners having recessed panels, elliptical-headed openings with impost moulding, broken statue contained within, and having domed cap with stone cross finial. Set in Glasnevin Cemetery to east of O'Connell Monument.
A classically styled funerary monument erected in the form of a belfry as the burial place of the Fleming family. It has a rather sober appearance, with a solid lower stage and openwork upper and displaying typical classical detailing. The monument is well proportioned and contributes to the stylistic variety of Glasnevin Cemetery, standing among a number of monuments of considerable architectural quality and craftsmanship. Originally known as Prospect Cemetery, the burial ground was opened in 1832 following a successful campaign by Daniel O'Connell, as a civic, non-denominational cemetery. It holds the graves and memorials of over one million people, including many notable citizens.
