Description

Freestanding tapering square-plan chimney, erected c.1900. Built in yellow brick laid in English garden wall bond with red brick flush bands, with corbelled-out top. Later steel reinforcements to corners of upper half and replacement red brick block to top. Located to rear of Temple Street Children's University Hospital, with recent buildings abutting base.

Appraisal

This brick chimney is an attractive example of engineered Victorian brickwork. While having no street presence, it is visible from many vantage points and contributes to the Victorian legacy of industrial structures in the north inner city.
