Single-arch limestone railway bridge, built c.1858, carrying accommodation track over Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway. Elliptical arch with rock-faced rusticated voussoirs with margined edges and coursed rock-faced rusticated stone to soffits. Chamfered rusticated stone platbands running through arch at impost level. Tapered buttresses flanking arch, continuing to form wing walls terminating in projecting piers, having rusticated and margined quoins. Roughly coursed squared stone to buttresses with rock-faced rusticated and margined stone quoins. Roughly coursed squared stone to spandrel and parapet walls, and rock-faced rusticated copings to parapets.
This simple but well-executed bridge is articulated and enhanced by rusticated stone detailing to the quoins, voussoirs, plat-bands and copings. It fulfilled an important function in providing a carriageway over the railway, while also providing an attractive focal point on the landscape. It formed a component part of the Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway, and is representative of the developments in technology and communication throughout the nineteenth century, and of the strong industrial heritage of this locality.
