Appraisal

This railway bridge, which unusually has three equal arches and a thin superstructure, provided access across the railway within Ballynure Demesne. It is articulated and enhanced by dressed stone detailing to the piers, voussoirs and parapets, as well as wrought-iron railings originally surmounted by a timber hand-rail, adding further interest. This bridge is of historical and social significance as a reminder of the railway network in Ireland, with the consequent technological advances and development of commercial activity. This bridge is a subtle but important and aesthetically-pleasing landmark in the area.
