Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, erected c.1915, with royal crown and monogram of George V. Lettering 'Post Office' to letter slot. Foundry mark to base of door. Set in coursed rubble stone wall to east of gateway to Hilton Park.
This post box is an example of the work of the London foundry of W.T. Allen & Co, and its functional design is provided with decorative and contextual interest by the royal insignia to the top. Boxes with this insignia were manufactured between 1910 and 1836, and are rarer than their earlier Victorian counterparts, due to the shortened reign of George V in Ireland.
