Appraisal

The appearance of this substantial house is imbued with an additional sense of grandeur due to the placement of its entrances at first floor level forming a piano nobile in the classical tradition. The taller window openings at this level enhance the effect, while the significantly smaller windows to the top floor give an added illusion of height. An interesting variety of timber sash windows has been retained, some having unusual pane arrangements forming full or partial margins, adding visual interest. Prominently sited on a height above the main Monaghan-Emyvale road, this house makes a distinctive contribution to the landscape.
