Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1910, with irregular plan, having forward gable to projecting south-east end of front elevation with canted bay window, and box-bay projection to north-west end, and two single-storey flat-roofed extensions to rear. Pitched slate roof with rolled clay ridge, plain timber bargeboards and overhanging timber eaves with exposed carved rafter ends, brick chimneystacks with clay pots and simple over-sailing course, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Hipped felt roofs to bay windows. Smooth rendered ruled-and-lined walling to ground floor and roughcast render to first floor, with moulded render string course between, rusticated block-and-start quoins and projecting plinth. Square-headed window openings with moulded render surrounds, painted stone sills and replacement uPVC window frames. Square-headed doorway with panelled timber door with moulded render surround having pediment detail with keystone, panelled timber door with overlight, fronted by round-nosed stone steps. Smooth-rendered cement boundary wall with wrought-iron railings to street. Exposed uncoursed rubble limestone wall with concrete capping to north boundary. Roughcast rendered lean-to outbuilding to north-east, and gateway with square-plan stone piers and timber gate to rear yard.

Appraisal

This is a distinctive early twentieth-century dwelling that retains much of its original character and detail. The various projections to the front enhance the form of the building, and the render details give it a simple elegance.
