Reinforced concrete structure forming sector of circle, built c.1925. Originally containing twelve bays for housing locomotives, now in use as storage for engineering firm. Vaulted concrete roof. Square-headed window openings with glazed timber-framed windows and concrete sills to north/rear and south-east elevations. Detached six-bay single-storey reinforced concrete office building, with bay window to east elevation, located to south-west of locomotive shed. Square-headed window openings with glazed timber-framed windows and concrete sills. Square-headed door opening with timber door to east elevation. Set in large yard with former goods shed located to south.
This building was the earliest of its kind built in Ireland and is the only survival. Representing an innovative use of reinforced concrete, it is an interesting and important example of an innovative engineering structure. It is part of the now defunct railway complex at Clones.
