Appraisal

This is an interesting functional installation dating to the late nineteenth century, some time after the introduction of the first Avery weighbridges in 1876. It is a distinctive reminder of the social history of these historic asylum sites which often had their own associated farms and were effectively run as distinct communities requiring the weighing of provisions and produce.
