Cast-iron Avery weighbridge, installed c.1890, with embedded cart weighing platform and associated single-storey weigh-house. Rectangular-plan hip-roofed weigh-house has slate roof with rolled lead ridges and replacement plastic rainwater goods, walls of timber sheeted panels having chamfered timber frames over stretcher bond brick base. Square-headed timber sheeted door to north end.
This is an interesting functional installation dating to the late nineteenth century, some time after the introduction of the first Avery weighbridges in 1876. It is a distinctive reminder of the social history of these historic asylum sites which often had their own associated farms and were effectively run as distinct communities requiring the weighing of provisions and produce.
