Description

Entrance gateway to former railway station, built c.1855. Ashlar limestone piers on square plan, upper part, including caps having octagonal plan. Caps are domed and mimic roofs, with moulded 'eaves' and ball finials. Gates now missing. Flanking boundary walls are of rubble limestone with cut-stone copings.

Appraisal

This gateway matches the form and detailing of the entranceway to the former goods shed. The work was clearly instigated by the Leslie estate and the quality is typical of its various buildings and other works.
