Description

Entrance gateway to railway goods shed, built c.1855. Ashlar limestone piers on square plan, upper part, including caps having octagonal plan. Caps are domed and mimic roofs, with moulded 'eaves'. Replacement decorative cast-metal double-leaf gates. Flanking boundary walls are of rubble limestone.

Appraisal

Fine craftsmanship is displayed in the masonry piers of this gateway which makes a fine complement to the former railway good shed at the end of the avenue.
