Description

Gateway to Castle Leslie estate, built c.1820, comprising squared rubble limestone square-plan inner and outer piers to quadrant entrance, with pyramidal stone caps to outer piers, and having cast-iron double-leaf gate (missing one leaf) and railings, latter atop chamfered plinths and having fleur-de-lys finials. Flanked by squared rubble limestone demesne walls.

Appraisal

This quadrant entrance is one of a group around the perimeter of Castle Leslie. Though less decorative than the others it is an essential part of the demesne infrastructure and displays good quality masonry and metalworking skills.
