Description

Domestic well, inserted c.1840 into snecked squared rubble limestone wall on road between Glaslough and Armagh. Rendered and limewashed surround to well, round-arch recess, cut-stone step, and battened timber door. Plaque to wall to local man who lived in gate lodge opposite and who maintained well.

Appraisal

This is a picturesque feature that enhances the roadside. Its simplicity and mundane function are part of its appeal, and it has added interest through its association with the nearby gate lodge. The well is part of the large and important group of estate structures and features at Glaslough.
