Description

Single-arch slightly humpbacked limestone bridge, built c.1870, carrying road over Mountain Water River. Segmental arch with punch-dressed voussoirs and rubble limestone soffit. Random rubble walls and parapets, with random rubble walling to river banks to each side of bridge. Western parapet is part of demesne wall of Castle Leslie.

Appraisal

This well constructed bridge, on the road between Glaslough and Monaghan, has a simple and functional elegance. Its form and detailing are different to those of the nearby group of railway bridges and thus it adds to the variety of such structures at Glaslough.
