Description

Rubble stone clapper bridge, built c.1800, crossing tributary of Abhainn Mhín Ghiolla Charraigh [Meengilcarry River] and having three low, narrow square-headed spans, triangular cut-waters to northeast elevation, and rubble stone parapets with copings of large stones.

Appraisal

This bridge is a rare surviving example of a clapper bridge, wherein the arching is achieved by simple stone slabs, and it forms an attractive feature in the landscape.
