Description

Ruins of freestanding T-plan Catholic chapel, built c.1820, having four-bay nave. Roofless, previously pitched, with projecting eaves course. Remains of lime render over rubble stone walls. Pointed-arch openings with rubble stone voussoirs. Recent plaque to altar inscribed 'Peace in our time'. Stands in graveyard bounded by rubble stone wall with round-plan piers having metal gate.

Appraisal

An attractive ruin in the landscape southeast of Ramelton that is of architectural and social significance to the locality and once formed the centre of worship for the local Catholic community. It has a typical T-plan, and pointed-arch openings are its main architectural detail.
