Single-span segmental-arched limestone road bridge, built c.1870, over Upper Inny River. Random-coursed squared rock-faced spandrels, parapet and coping. Regular rock-faced voussoirs to arch ring with dressed underside and arris, squared rubble barrel, flanked by single buttress to north-west. Associated rubble field walls to south.
This bridge, spanning the Cavan-Meath border, demonstrates the high quality of design and construction employed in nineteenth century bridge construction. Rock-faced masonry is well-suited to the rural setting and the sharply detailed arch ring presents self-conscious design and a robust aspect along the banks of Lough Sheelin. The structure is well incorporated into the rubble field walls and adds to the historic character of the rural landscape.
