Description

Detached three-bay single-storey direct-entry vernacular house, built c.1850. Pitched roof with recent corrugated metal and rendered barge coping, rendered chimneystack to south gable, uPVC rainwater goods. Rubble stone walls, concrete sills to window openings. Timber casement windows flanking timber sheeted entrance door. Recent timber boundary fence.

Appraisal

A small two-roomed house on prominent corner site at a T-junction, of a vernacular type once widespread in rural Ireland, but now increasingly rare. It has a simple symmetrical elevation and retains its historic form with small openings and textured roughcast finish. The house makes a strong contribution to the architectural character of the crossroads, and is a reminder of the scale and form of traditional rural housing in the past.
