Detached three-bay single-storey former gate lodge, built c.1840, recent extension to avenue elevation. Hipped slate roof. Ashlar walls with central gabled breakfront entrance bay having a skewtable returned to form an open pediment.
Set at the north-east entrance to the ecclesiastic demesne of Kilmore Cathedral and See House, this picturesque gate lodge is attributed to William Farrell (d.1851), as is the bishop's palace, See House. It forms part of a significant group of related structures with another gate lodge, the old cathedral, nineteenth century cathedral, and main house.
