Gate screen, built c.1840, now disused. Square-profile cut stone gate piers with moulded stone cornice detail and chamfered plinth. Wrought-iron gates with fluer-de-lys finials to balusters and dog-bars, scrollwork beneath top rail. Gate piers flanked by high rubble stone wall with half-barrel rubble stone coping and having integral square-headed pedestrian side entrance with sheeted timber door to east. Framed by quadrant screen walls with rubble stone end piers.
A gateway of simple elegant proportions that makes a pleasing roadside addition. Its function as a secondary entrance is conveyed through its relatively modest design aspirations compared to the overtly ostentatious main entrance gates. The screen forms a well-composed ensemble with the adjacent hipped-roofed two-storey lodge. It forms an integral part of the extensive demesne associated with Farnham House, a demesne which is an important part of the architectural heritage of the county.
