Single-span stone road-over-river bridge, built 1887. Roughly coursed and squared rubble walling continuing upwards to form parapets, rock-faced copings, inscribed stone plaques to inner faces at crown. Segmental-headed arch, rock-faced ashlar limestone voussoirs, semi-circular buttresses to either side of arch. Bitmac carriageway, narrow grass verges to both sides. Parapets extend as boundary walls to road to north and south. Spans north-south over the Owenbeg River.
This bridge, designed by the County Surveyor C B Jones, is an imposing feature over the Owenbeg River. The arch and flanking buttresses are well formed and the inscribed stone plaques are of particular interest. The bridge is a reminder of the road network which developed in Ireland in the nineteenth century using local materials and labour in its construction.
