Description

Attached five-bay single-storey thatched house, built c. 1890. Now in use as a public house. Porch to front (east) elevation, one-and-a-half storey house to south, single-storey corrugated iron-roofed extensions to rear. Straw pegged thatched roof, unpainted smooth-rendered corbelled chimneystack, concrete skews. Painted smooth-rendered walling. Square-headed window openings, painted stone sills, painted timber casement windows c. 1980. Square-headed door opening, painted timber vertically-sheeted double doors. Bitmac forecourt to road.

Appraisal

This thatched public house is a prominent landmark on the southern approach to Ballysadare. The building has lost some of its original fabric and fittings but still gives an overall impression of the rural vernacular character which is rapidly being lost with development of the surrounding area.
