Description

Stone holy well, built c. 1700. Rubble dry stone walling, flat stone slab over well, circular pool with hollowed boulder stone, semi-circular raised bed with bounding walls stepping up to straight rear wall to north containing early stone carved plaque set into wall depicting Jesus on the cross. Located to east of narrow lane short distance from main road.

Appraisal

This holy well lies just off the main road and is prominently signposted and reputedly has healing properties. The carved plaque is of special interest. This is of social significance being rooted in traditional superstitious practices.
