Description

Detached multi-bay single-storey rendered National School, built 1883, no longer in use. Two contiguous three-bay north-south classroom blocks, gabled entrance porches to north end of east and west elevations. Pitched artificial slate roofs, central valley between central slopes, clay ridge tiles, painted timber projecting bargeboards and eaves, cast-iron rainwater goods. Unpainted smooth-rendered walling, stone wall plaque inscribed '1883'. Square-headed window openings, stone sills, painted nine-over-nine timber sash windows to north and south gables, six-over-six to east and west elevations. Painted vertically-sheeted wainscotting to internal walls. Square-headed door openings, painted vertically-sheeted timber doors. Set in gravelled yard, public road to north, rubble stone boundary walls.

Appraisal

This traditional village school retains most of its original features and, although derelict, is a good example of an unaltered late-nineteenth century National School, with large well-proportioned classrooms and clear segregation of accommodation for male and female pupils.
