Detached five-bay two-storey rendered bank premises, built c. 1890. Pitched slate roof, clay ridge tiles, brick corbelled chimneystacks, moulded cast-metal gutters. Painted smooth-rendered walling, rusticated quoins, channeled rustication to ground floor, moulded plinth, first-floor platband, sill strings to ground and first floor, plain fascia with moulded edge below eaves. Square-headed window openings, painted moulded lugged-and-kneed surrounds with lozenge keystones to ground floor and semi-circular risings over first floor, painted masonry sills on miniature corbels, uPVC casement windows c. 2000. Square-headed door opening, flat pilasters supporting painted moulded cornice, plain-glazed overlight, painted timber panelled double doors, limestone steps. Narrow frontage to street, bounded by wrought-iron railings with cast-iron embellishments on double-cant stone plinth, set back from building line.
This building is an excellent example of the consummate skill and confidence with which commercial premises were designed and executed during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It is enlivened by an abundance of rendered detail and handsome wrought- and cast-iron railings.
