Description
Square-profiled ashlar limestone gate piers, erected c.1810, with plinth, cornice and cap. Flanked by curving ashlar limestone walls with coping terminating in square-profile ashlar piers. These gates provide access to the former Rockingham Demesne. Gates were possibly moved and rebuilt to allow for N4 road widening scheme.
Appraisal
An impressive set of gate piers with an intact stretch of demesne wall associated within the former Rockingham Estate. Although partially damaged and rebuilt, they recall the former entranceway's grandeur.
