Description

Octagonal limestone gate piers, erected c.1810, with square profile base and cap. Flanked by curving ashlar limestone plinth wall. Railing removed from wall. Situated on northern side of main road. Wall and piers were recently moved north to allow for the widening of the N4 road.

Appraisal

These stone gate piers and walls are constructed of finely executed limestone and form an attractive entrance into the former Rockingham Estate. The piers are complemented by the flanking curved plinth walls and form part of a group of related structures within the former Rockingham Demesne.
