Detached five-bay two-storey house built, c.1830, with shopfront to ground floor and with rear return and outbuildings to rear of site. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks. Pebbledashed upper walls, rendered string course and plinth and smooth render to ground floor. Replacement uPVC windows with tooled stone sills. Glazed timber double doors with raised tooled stone surround with keystone flanked by traceried sidelights and surmounted by spoked fanlight. Timber shopfront with pilasters, fascia with raise lettering, timber and glazed double doors with overlight and stone threshold and flanked by display windows with replacement uPVC glazing. Outbuilding to rear with wrought-iron gate adjoining house to north. House fronts directly onto street.
This building, situated to the north of the Roman Catholic Church on Elphin Street, is of cultural significance due to its association with P.A. Sharkey, the author of "The Heart of Ireland". Its classical form is enriched by decorative elements and fabric including an elaborate doorway with tooled stone surround, spoked fanlight and decorative sidelights which retain their original glass.
