Cast-iron foot bridge, erected c.1860 by the M.G.W.R. as part of the Sligo Branch railway line. Cast-iron panelled newel posts with modern sheeted metal panels to sies of bridge and stairs. Cast-iron columns surmounted by round arches supporting bridge at each. Square-profiled columns supporting stairs. Maker's mark reads E.MANISTY & Co. LTD DUNDALK.
This decorative foot bridge, giving access to both platforms, is part of the station complex at Boyle. Not only is this a necessary and functional structure, it also has many fine details such as its newel posts, making the bridge a visually-appealing structure within the larger group. Constructed in metal, the foot bridge is representative of the innovations made in technology and design during the nineteenth century.
