Description

Two-arch road bridge over river, dated 1887. Part creeper- or ivy-covered tuck pointed snecked limestone walls centred on tooled limestone ashlar rounded cutwaters to pier having domed capping with tooled cut-limestone "saddleback" coping to parapets centred on lichen-covered cut-limestone date stone ("1887"). Pair of segmental arches with tooled limestone ashlar voussoirs. Set in unkempt grounds shared with Castlemacgarett spanning Robe River with overgrown banks to river.

Appraisal

A bridge contributing positively to the group and setting values of the Castlemacgarrett estate with the architectural value of the composition, one doubling as a memorial to Christina Browne (née Guthrie) (1834-87), Lady Oranmore and Browne, confirmed not only by the "sparrow pecked" sheer limestone dressings demonstrating good quality workmanship, but also by the elegant "sweep" of the arches making a pleasing visual statement at a crossing over the Robe River.
