Gateway, extant 1838[?], on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of garland-detailed tooled cut-limestone panelled "obelisk" piers on chamfered plinths having lichen-covered pyramidal capping with garland-detailed tooled cut-limestone panelled "obelisk" outer piers on benchmark-inscribed chamfered plinths having lichen-covered pyramidal capping supporting cast-iron railings. Repositioned, post-1918. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Clooncormick House.
A Classically-detailed gateway, 'similar to Ballyfin [House], County Laois, by Sir Richard Morrison [1767-1849]' (Craig and Garner 1976, 37), making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan setting at the principal entrance on to the grounds of the fragmented Clooncormick House estate: meanwhile, a discreet benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey (established 1824).
