Detached three-bay two-storey house, post-1917, on a T-shaped plan with single-bay (two-bay deep) two-storey central return (east). Renovated. Hipped slate roof on a T-shaped plan with roll moulded clay ridge tiles, paired rendered central chimney stacks having "Cavetto"-detailed corbelled stepped stringcourses below capping supporting terracotta pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on consoles. Part creeper-covered rendered walls (ground floor) on rendered plinth; gritdashed roughcast surface finish (first floor) with rendered strips to corners supporting indented rendered band to eaves. Segmental-headed central door opening with moulded rendered surround framing replacement timber panelled door having sidelights on panelled risers below fanlight. Square-headed window openings with concrete sills, and moulded rendered surrounds framing replacement one-over-one timber sash windows having part exposed sash boxes. Set in landscaped grounds with rendered piers to perimeter having capping supporting wrought iron gate.
A house representing an integral component of the twentieth-century domestic built heritage of Tagheen with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact symmetrical footprint centred on an elegant doorcase; the uniform proportions of the openings on each floor with the principal "apartments" defined by Classically-detailed bay windows; and the decorative timber work embellishing the roofline. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original or sympathetically replicated fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thereby upholding the character or integrity of a house making a pleasing visual statement in a rural village setting.
