Detached four-bay three-storey mill with half-attic, extant 1852, on a rectangular plan. For sale, 1857. In ruins, 1895. Part dismantled, 1931, to accommodate alternative use. Disused, 1945. Pitched roof now missing with no rainwater goods surviving on lichen-covered cut-limestone eaves. Part creeper- or ivy-covered walls retaining sections of lime rendered or roughcast surface finish. Square-headed window openings with rough hewn rubble stone lintels. Interior in ruins with inscribed cement rendered surface finish ("1931"). Set in unkempt grounds.
The shell of a mill erected by Barry John Yelverton (1790-1870), third Viscount Avonmore of nearby Hazelrock Lodge (see 31308903; Mayo Constitution 1857), representing an integral, if ill-fated component of the mid nineteenth-century industrial heritage of County Mayo.
