Description

Freestanding cut-limestone Celtic High Cross-style monument, erected 1940. Road fronted with on unkempt grass verge with wrought iron railings to perimeter centred on flat iron Cross finial.

Appraisal

A monument erected as a testimony to Thomas O'Malley (d. 1921) and Thomas Lally (d. 1921), two volunteers killed during the so-called "Islandeady Ambush" (1921), regarded as an integral component of the twentieth-century commemorative architectural heritage of County Mayo.
