Detached four-bay single-storey national school, dated 18--; extant 1896. In use, 1962. Closed, 1969. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, red brick Running bond chimney stack having lichen-covered chamfered capping supporting terracotta pots, timber bargeboards to gables on timber purlins, and no rainwater good surviving on exposed timber rafters retaining cast-iron downpipes. Fine roughcast walls with rusticated cut-limestone date stone ("18--"). Square-headed window openings with cut-limestone sills, and concealed dressings framing timber casement windows having square glazing bars. Square-headed door opening with overgrown threshold, and concealed dressings framing timber boarded or tongue-and-groove timber panelled door with overlight now boarded-up. Set back from line of road in unkempt grounds.
A dilapidated national school representing an integral component of the later nineteenth-century architectural heritage of County Mayo. A prolonged period of neglect notwithstanding, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, thus upholding the character or integrity of a national school making a pleasing, if increasingly forlorn visual statement in a sylvan setting.
