Freestanding monument, designed 1844; erected 1845. Set in landscaped grounds shared with Christ Church (Castlebar or Aglish) with inscribed dragged cut-limestone panelled piers to perimeter having "Cavetto"-detailed pyramidal capping supporting cast-iron railings.
A monument erected 'by a numerous circle of naval military and civil friends…to the memory of Major George O'Malley [1780-1843]', and to a design exhibited (1844) by Thomas Kirk RHA (1781-1845) of Dublin (IAA), regarded as an important component of the nineteenth-century commemorative architectural heritage of County Mayo.
