Single-arch masonry canal bridge, built in 1849 as part of the Ballinamore and Ballyconnell Canal. Rock-faced ashlar walls and voussoirs to segmental arch-ring. Splayed abutments with buttresses. Tooled limestone coping stones. Cement re-pointing to joints.
Built as part of the Ballinamore and Ballyconnell Canal scheme, this masonry bridge is representative of the assured architectural and engineering knowledge of the mid-nineteenth century. Raised above the village, it is an imposing structure with notable height. It is part of an interesting inland waterway associated complex comprising the canal and mooring posts. It is a defining element in the streetscape of Leitrim Town's main thoroughfare.
