Description

Double-arch limestone bridge, built c.1840, carrying road over Turra River. Round arches with tooled voussoirs. Coursed dressed walls with some render, curved parapet walls to road. Square-plan pier abutments. U-cutwaters with rendered string course and domed tops. Soffits gunnelled.

Appraisal

The graceful curve of the parapet walls to this bridge echo the well proportioned arches and is further complemented by the smooth lines of the cutwaters with their skilfully completed string course. The bridge is a testament to the architectural imagination of nineteenth century civil engineering.
