Description

Single-arch road limestone bridge, built c.1790, over Ballycahalan River. Round arch with cut-stone voussoirs. Rubble walls and rubble parapet walls with rendered copings.

Appraisal

This simple single-arch bridge stands as a testament to the skill and engineering of local craftsmen. The wide single span of the arch is set deliberately low to minimise the rise to the road, illustrating the tailoring of bridge architecture to suit local road conditions.
