Description

Detached four-bay single-storey vernacular house with dormer attic, built c.1800. Renovated, 2006-8. Hipped and pitched thatched roof with scolloped ridge and rendered chimneystacks. Whitewashed walls. Square-headed window openings with painted sills and replacement timber casement windows. Square-headed door opening with replacement glazed timber panelled half-door. Rubble stone boundary wall.

Appraisal

A vernacular house retaining its original form and much historic fabric. The low elevation, thick walls and small openings are typical of the vernacular tradition in Ireland. Once common throughout the countryside and small villages, thatched buildings have become increasingly rare, and the survival of this example is notable.
