Description

Freestanding beehive-shaped rubble limestone monument, dated 1653, bearing inscribed plaque commemorating James Lally and his family.

Appraisal

This unusual monument, like others in the county, stands in the middle of a field. It is part of a series of late seventeenth-century memorials to local families in North Galway and also bears comparison with the later cenotaphs on Oileáin Árann/ Aran Islands.
