Description
Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1915, with raised “GR” royal cipher. Set in unpainted rendered boundary wall.
Appraisal
This post box has a subtle impact on the visual appeal of the streetscape. The various raised details enhance the design quality of the artefact, while the royal cipher is of particular significance as a tangible reminder of Ireland as part of the British Empire. The post box also represents a well-maintained example of early mass-produced cast-iron ware.
